Just got back from watching Cloud Atlas with a friend (Yarbz). Interesting movie. Both not what I expected and better then I expected, though I would be hard pressed to say what that actually was. There's a lot going on, a lot of different details and places, but the transitions were well done and easy to follow - in some places they were prefect, ( Read more... )

Had an excellent conversation with jackspade64 this afternoon, both about the book and life in general. -- First full week of Lifeguarding completed. Exhausting, but good. Also, got some swimming in!
-- Met up with the other grad. student in my Antiquities course to go museuming. Had a good time, then went to a sushi restaurant for dinner.

Had a fantastic weekend sating my curiosity and learned a number of interesting things, the coolest of which is probably the existence of a Mercury Fountain. (Which is EPIC!) Looked into a whole host of other things too, basic research, but that was the most exciting. Although circumbinary planets were pretty cool too ( Read more... )

Had a wonderfully relaxing Spring Break and, so far, a pretty good start to the last half of the semester. Largely stayed at home, but did a few fun things:

Drove down to jackspade64's last night to spend the day. Apparently the tooth extraction went surprisingly well. It was done in the same fashion as historical dentists: an application of pliers, then Push-Twist-Pull. (Although now done with novacaine, thank goodness.) It would seem there are some techniques neither time nor man can improve.
